Post about your user experience and suggestions for site improvements here
To make sure everyone has a great time on Slushe, we highly encourage you to tell us about your overall user experience. If you have any helpful suggestions for us to improve any features on the site, we'd love to hear about them. :)
The first thing that comes to mind is that I would love to have something more easy to manage your posts. Something like google images, where you can create folders and drag and drop files into those places very quickly, and then edit the categories and descriptions later on instead of filling out all the stuff per image. This feels a bit stutterish to me right now.

Thanks for setting this site up :)

User Profile

in the "About yourself..." (profile description) textarea the text is "slashed" too much and they are also coming out on the viewed profile description.

mouse hover over link text will turn the link white (on white)

a user should never be able to set href target

critical, it is possible to inject <script> in the user description.

the script issue is reportedly fixed, try testing it again

don't see the the white link text issue, is there a specific area where that shows?

Great work ! my suggestionsHomepage:+ have a less intrusive main banner or a way to mask it. it should not take 1/2 screen space.+ the wall of picture is impossible to read - have the thumbnails more spread out+ the sliding pink plate on hovering is very intrusive - get rid of it or make it more discrete.+ When showing a media, clarify if its an image set or a single image.Categories:+ Have the hovering function disabled on click: the drop down menu is masking the category page.+ More generally have a user preference check list (always on top) that the user can tweek (see Hentai Foundry filter)Artists:+ Page design not consistant with the other main pages.Profile:+ Banner does not resize with browser window (while the rest of the page does).Uploads:+ Thumbnail-ing: have a system where the uploader can recrop his uploaded media as a thumbnail.+ Make the description box optional+ Categories in one column needs scrolling: make font smaller ?, multiple columns, so the uploader can read them at one glance.+ Add the ability for the uploader to reorganize his uploaded content.err... Forum edit/format function !

-search for artists

-watermark option

-resize resolution

@Cyprine

filtering will be introduced soon with some categories requiring opt-in and the ability to opt out of any categories you don't want to see the content of

what changes are you suggesting with the artist page?

re-cropping thumbnails isn't yet workable because thumbs don't have a consistent size, but we'll addressing the multi image gallery display in general

we're adding user voice so people can see, suggest and prioritize changes

@ProzacParade

artist search already works on the artist page

water marking can be done but is one of the non critical features that the community will need to prioritize, but will be added eventually

images are auto optimized as I understand it, are you referring to resizing dimensions?

suggestion for Artist page design to remain consitant with other pages:

Table (column/row) with avatars pics + names arranged as the home or media pages;

alternatively: avatar + name, then a row of pics from that artist.

------

the notification bubble is so close to the upload button - and of the same color - its a little confusing. Maybe put the bubble on the other side of the silhouette or to the right of the artist name.

about the pink sliding plates: if you really want to keep them, at least give them more transparency (and a smaller font ?)

Straight off the bat, it's amazing that you guys are doing this.

Total agree with the first suggestion regarding media management -- this will be critical, especially for those of us with a massive back catalog ;-)

Second, for a site dedicated to the presentation of art, I think you can do better than an in-line/blogging format.  The previews are too big and cropping too much of the art.  The thing I like THE MOST about this site visually so far is the "Categories" contactsheet.  I would love for my profile to look similar... a main banner... a "montage" of most popular images, etc.  Generally more "graphical" than text-based.  However, that's a personal preference.

Third: ability to post multiple images at once?  For those presenting series, it would be preferable to have all images in one single post.

Fourth: I found the upload UI to be a bit clunky... and wondered about the need for tags when I'm already categorizing my work via the category selection boxes.  Also, upload failed on fourth try.

This is five minutes of thoughts.  I do seriously love that you are doing this.  I think you have an opportunity to own the 3DX market if you can 1. make the vendor experience awesome and 2. put the work front-and-center in a beautiful way.  Very long-term, you should be thinking "WIX for 3DX artists".  If I could move LCK to WIX without fear of violating their terms of use, I would do it in a heartbeat.

The site needs a larger file size limit or an auto scale/file resizer. A good amount of my images are 4k and even in jpeg format will not fit under the 5mb limit.Examples of sites that do this.Tumblr: auto resizes and changes the file format. No limit as they resize the files.Pixiv: changes the file format to jpg to save space but has a limit of like 8mb per image and 30mb per set.

It would be an improvement to be able to follow an artist from the artists main section without having to enter every artist's blog.
The social links on the artists page should open in a new tab. Bigger file size would be also very nice. I've huge images in 8000x5000 pixel. Even as very compressed jpg-files they are bigger as 5mb or look very bad.

Is  there support or a plan to support adding gifs or short animations (similar to what we had on Tumblr)?

Also the "artists" tab at the top should only list people who actually uploaded an image.

That's one thing I feel is missing from this website. Otherwise from the viewer perspective I find it great so far.

the artist profile page is already laid out like the media page, blog on the left, right the avatar, artist info, favs, etc

what would you want to display differently?

yes, we'll move the notification bubble and make the little icon more visible

we'll keep working on the home page layout as for the pink slides, we'll likely reduce the height to say half

Will there be a way to access the statistics? I mean, I can see the number of followers, etc, but I can't see who they are.

@LCKX

  • cheers, yes, honing core features first then 'convenience' features
  • you can switch between blog and gallery view, but we're still fine tuning the look of both and we're open to adding more views or customization options if there's demand for it
  • you can post multiple images at once and the upload has already been enhanced quite a bit in that you can preview thumbs of the images you're uploading and select which image to be thumb for the post
  • re tags, they're useful for trending topics or categories not contained in the default ones and unlike tumblr we do allow commas for multi word tags :D
  • yes, as mentioned above we're open to artists being able to completely customize their profile pages down the track

@BryonSmothers3DX yes, we want to ensure support for 4K images, reasonably large image sets and GIFs so we'll increase max limits accordingly after further testing

@DEVLGo It would be an improvement to be able to follow an artist from the artists main section without having to enter every artist's blog.

you wouldn't want to first check out their work? I can understand you may know a lot of artists you want to add, but that's likely just an initial thing, no?

@DEVLGo Will there be a way to access the statistics? I mean, I can see the number of followers, etc, but I can't see who they are.

yes, we'll add a feature that allows you to click through to who your follows are and we'll eventually add basic statics like viewers p/day/week, what your most viewed/ commented works are, etc

@nerddesign The social links on the artists page should open in a new tab. Bigger file size would be also very nice. I've huge images in 8000x5000 pixel. Even as very compressed jpg-files they are bigger as 5mb or look very bad.

we'll change socials to open in a new tab

re max file sizes, it will be a combination of file treatment recommendations before uploading the file and supporting at least 4k images.... 8000x5000 is huge :) how are dimensions that big useful if you can't display them on a 4k monitor currently? for zooming in? just curious how you use them

yes, we already support GIFs... try uploading some, I understand there's issues with some GIF types, if yours doesn't work right after uploading, we'd appreciate you send the original to [email protected] so we can resolve the issue

Also the "artists" tab at the top should only list people who actually uploaded an image.

we're looking at users self identify as artists and only then give them the option to upload, but your idea is a good initial solution, added to the todo list
