Campfire Magic

We met today on the PCT.  You were making some adjustments to your pack when I happened upon you.  Both solo hiking but after weeks on the trail the need for a human connection hits like a truck.  We hiked together for 15 miles.  It was a tough one as we began to ascend into the mountains.  We talked about everything.  I soaked you in like a sponge and after a few hours I felt like I'd known you my whole life.

As the day went on, we began looking for a good place to stop and set up camp.  You spotted this great site that had a fire ring and great view of the valley below.  We settled in for the night.  I don't know if it was loneliness or what, but I was overwhelmed by desire as we sat by the fire.  Perhaps you felt the same.  Under a cloudless sky with only the moon and stars as witnesses, we made love.

First light came too soon and I reached over to where you had spent the night by my side.  Gone.  I sat up and looked around.  No trace of you.  Was it all a dream?
