Hallow's Eve

Oct 06, 2020

Arrallon has its own version of Halloween.  Its called Mantari's Eve.  It falls on the first full Mantari (the small moon orbiting Arrallon) of autumn, which happens to always be the 3rd of Delsept thanks to Arrallon's terraforming.  The birth and history of the holiday isn't important, only that it too is celebrated with masked balls, dressing up in scary outfits, and occasionally, an actual horror happening.

On that night, a young elf girl was born long ago.  She was born to the northern wood elves, the Paleurevallan Elves.  But she was not one to live a life of tending groves and protecting the animals of the forests from Gnoll raiders, Ogres and Giants.  No.  She joined a vile cult, a coven of Witches known for their desire to bring about Ragnarok.  Her name was Merideth, but she always pronounced it, Merry-Death.  She died, betrayed and sacrificed by her own coven sisters.

But like so many other legends of Arrallon, she didn't stay dead.  Her heart cut out and burned in her sacrifice, she crawled up out of her grave,... you got it,... on that same night, Mantari's Eve more than a century later.  And so, a new half-life began.  Not really alive, not truly undead, some other thing, some horrid thing, beat in her chest in place of her heart.  She adopted a new name,... Hallow.

Some years later, after gaining fame and power as an adventurer and member of the famed Night Raptors,... Hallow animated the long dead crew of a sunken ship and took over as its Captain.  She gained yet another moniker,... Madame Bones.  But Hallow never forgets to properly celebrate her birthday each year,... on Hallow's Eave,... not by dressing up and going to parties,...

By conjuring literal Ghosts, Goblins and Ghouls.
