Ordena

Another ode to Alfonso Azpiri. This is my entry to the X-rated Fairy Tale contest. 

In Azpiri's graphic novel Wet Dreams, the short story The Commitment features Queen Ordena, the widow of Andark's wizard king. She rules the kingdom in his wake, but is about to have to pass the crown to her step-daughter Edea as her coming of age nears. Edea learns her step-mother intends to kill her and keep the throne, but that there is also a noble, silver-clad knight hurrying to the castle. She prays he will save her in time, but [spoiler alert] does not know that his loyalties lie with Ordena.

I love how Azpiri drew women, extremely sexual, powerful and enigmatic, draped in lavish robes and bedecked in complex, geometric jewels. Ordena's color palette always stuck with me in particular, red hair with silver streaks and fuschia-pink robes against cold, blue stone castle halls.
