Welcome To My Show!

Feb 15, 2020

I had being trying to craft an idea like this for a while... but then the right pieces fell into place.

I knew I wanted to have Rayne in another set kind of like Shiny Rayne but I wanted it to be brighter and with more color. I did experiment with making light props somewhat similar to what was seen in Rayne's previous set. I was happy with those. But when I tried to experiment with building the rest of the set and what clothing assets I had I just wasn't happy with the results.

Recently the Daz Store had a sale to celebrate the release of Daz Studio 4.12. There was one item in my wish list that I had in there for a while: the Stage Hand set/prop pack. I wanted it in general because I knew it had possibilities for a number of things but with it being something like 50% off I had to get it. And as I was looking around there was an outfit that was recently released that seemed like it would also fit with the idea I had in my head: the Leather and Lace Flirty Outfit. So I grabbed that as well.

I first started experimenting with the outfit and I quickly determined that some bits just wouldn't look right on Rayne. So the wrist and arm bracelets were removed... along with whatever weird little heart piercing was in the middle of her chest.

I wasn't fond of the default white color on Rayne but since I had yet to choose a background set for this I thought it would be best to try to figure that out first to make sure whatever color choice I selected would make sense with the rest of the scene.

Here's one thing I've kind of noticed with background set creators on both the Daz and Renderosity stores: they have a bit of a habit of being a bit too 'extra' in their designs. There were a couple of others I tired out before purchasing Stage Hand and to me they were rather distracting for what I wanted to achieve here. Even then some sets in here were too busy for my liking.

There were a few that still had possibilities... but the one I really liked is what you see here. Something about the string lights providing a nice seperation effect especially when depth of field was going to be used grabbed my attention. There was also something about a smaller stage I liked. The set did have a few items that I felt would be out of my place for this idea so I did remove them.

Damn did it take some work to set these scenes up. Since there was a ton of light strings it slowed down working in the viewport by quite a bit. Normally this would be solved by turning off things outside fo the viewport. The problem was that the lights were in such huge groups that it was pretty much 'all or nothing'. It was better for me just to turn off the set entirely, go pose Rayne however I wanted, get her into the approximate spot, turn everything on, and then make tweaks where needed. And I certainly had to make tweaks because of those boots.

Overall I like the idea and I think the posing and expressions used with Rayne really help capture her character.
