1043 Naked Adventure
She had been with her mother long enough to know how to will someone dead.
Lexi grew up a tough girl from Chicago who grew up poor and dealt with shithole public schools full of drugs, prostitution, vice, and daily deadly violence. Luna walked into the waiting room of Adventure Society prospects, pointed, and said, “her.” Everyone has teased her she would be the last chosen for mentorship, or not chosen at all.
Yet she was the first.
She didn’t know who this woman was, who the Society changed records and made Luna her mother, and then Luna took her to a remote place in the Pacific Northwest and began kicking her ass. But in a good way. Lexi tried to rebel, to run away, to go back to her old ways, to find the local bar and hang there, but Luna always found her. It turned into a game they liked playing with each other, and Lexi found it in her heart to love this strange, intense and deadly woman as a friend and someone she could become very close to.
And then the real fun started.
Training to kill people. Military equipment. Survival. Flight school. Traps and evasion. Silent killing. Learning to use weapons from all over the world. Luna has this aura about her, almost like she didn’t come from this world at all, that she was some reincarnated warrior from a long-lost tribe of badass female killers long ago. She knew Luna ached from being removed from her eternal battle-sisters in some way, and Luna always said she would return to them someday. And she said
Lexi was earning her place alongside her.
And if Luna wanted something dead, it died. A weapon was not used in fear, it was directed with purpose.
Willed to its target.
When she landed, she spun, slammed her ass into the ground, used her left hand to pull her bone knife, and threw it in one quick motion before she ever stopped moving.
The mercenary who chased them, reloading while he ran in pursuit, ran straight into the blade, and she threw it so hard the tip blotched red on his back and his body flew through the air. The merc was dead before he hit the ground.
Not because she was a good throw or lucky.
Because this is how her mother would will someone dead.
And it would happen exactly as she wanted.
Just like that.
