Elegance a (Kala)

Jan 08, 2022

Meet the most beautiful pain in the butt I have worked on yet. Turns out the artist missed a major leg seam in the specular settings with her, and it forced me to do a reevaluation and rebuild of all my 2022 cast shaders, and I redid the skin settings on 11 figures this morning. I like the new shaders, they are less "jpg grainy" in close ups, and get that mice micro-bump look close up. I am happy, Kala is happy, and now I have a workflow for all new characters that preserves detail, maintains low-level close-up micro displacement, and looks good from a distance and renders at a good clip. Best of all worlds.

Is this all worth it? Yes, it is. The fundamentals are the bas of all your work going forward. Plus I can make characters with my workflow that don't look like anyone else's work. The artist gets to flex and show their stuff, and that is what people react to.

Supporters get the close-ups of b through e. Enjoy.
