Focus Group

Dec 30, 2021

Casino owner and real estate magnate Derick Thorpe sat in his art deco office with his entourage of sidekicks and hired assistants, all of them clueless about what was on the agenda. Thorpe, up all night visiting his casino and attending the floor show of his headline attractions, was still in his evening formal attire. Despite the long day, he still looked the part of the dapper Vegas playboy. His sidekick John, martini still in hand, was his reliable soundboard. He drank too much but always gave his unvarnished opinion, something akin to a court jester.

“I’ve called you all here to get your impressions of the new chorus line ensemble. Please come in, now. Stand in the sunlight so we can get a good view. It’s a fair simulation of a spotlight.

The headdress is a reproduction from the 20’s I purchased from an east coast antique dealer and had copied.

Some of you have been with me all night and are dog-tired. Others are starting their day. I want everyone’s input.”

The group was silent for a few seconds.

“Comments?”

“I love it. A lot less coverage than the old costumes, but who’s complaining?. The men in the room at will be riveted. But it’s key to have entire line of dancers as well endowed.” John opined.

“What about the ladies?”

“I’m glad you asked. Gentlemen.”  Two sculpted models entered the room clad in matching g-strings and a few bits of ornament. They knelt at either side of the dancer striking poses. “Very nice. Please stand and turn around slowly so we can see all angles.”

“Now you’re talking. Something for everybody.” said Lisa.

“Opulent, elegant, risqué. A great combination.”

He then addressed the models. “Any objections? Please be honest.”

The dancer responded. “Well, I’ve worn less, in decidedly lower class settings. The headdress is a bit heavy, but I’m getting used to it. And for what you are offering in salary, I’m delighted, as long as the room is warm.”

“Is it cold in here?” John joked, staring at the dancers erect nipples.

“Gentlemen?”

“No complaints. It sure beats being a bouncer. Much shorter hours and four times the pay.”

“Peacocks are symbolic of wealth, opulence and also naughtiness, I did homework.” said Derick. And with the right choreography, I think we’ll have a hit. “Very well. We’ll proceed. Thanks everyone.”
