Bathory Erzsebet (1560-1614)

Jul 17, 2021

This is an amalgamation and adaption of several paintings of Countess Bathory Erzsebet, a 16th century Hungarian noblewoman best known for possibly killing hundreds of girls aged 10-14 years old. She would torture the girls to death, primarily by beating them savagely, but some witnessed her using methods best not described here. (Let's just say "forced auto-cannibalization" wasn't the most horrific thing.)

Due to the politics of the day, she was never prosecuted but was sentenced to house arrest and died of age-related disease. (She was insanely powerful personally, had powerful relatives and friends and the king realized putting her on trial would lead to civil war.)
