AI Art On Slushe

Mar 30, 2023
Hey Slusheans, Alice here. Today I’d like to talk about Slushe’s stance on art generated by AI tools. We have seen an increase in AI generated art being posted on Slushe, and we have been receiving a lot of questions from you about whether or not this is allowed on Slushe.

Rules regarding posting AI generated art

We do allow AI art on Slushe. However, in relation to this we have updated our Site Rules as follows:
  • AI generated art must be assigned the AI Art category as well as an ‘ai’ and/or ‘ai art’ tag when you submit it to Slushe.
  • AI generated art is not eligible to be featured on Slushe’s Homepage.
  • AI generated art is not eligible to be featured as a Media Highlight in Slushe’s official blog posts or social media posts.

When submitting AI art on Slushe, please also be aware that the standard content submission rules also apply:
  • Do not depict artwork featuring real life people - this means any content bearing a resemblance to a real life person in appearance, name, or any other identifiable attributes.
  • Do not post content featuring characters under the age of 18 years old.
  •  Do not spam or flood the site with numerous posts in a short period of time.
  • Do not purposely miscategorize or incorrectly tag your content.
  • Do not pretend to be an artist that you are not.
  • Do not post art you have found elsewhere on the internet.

Appearance of AI generated art on Slushe

We have added the AI Art category to the categories listing. We expect all users who are posting AI art to assign this category to their posts moving forward. If you have existing AI art on your blog, please add the category to your post(s). If you do not do this, a moderator may hide or disable your post until you do.

As AI tools are a unique form of technology to produce content, we are currently working on a separate ‘AI Art’ Homepage tab, in which all such content will appear. Once we’ve implemented that tab, AI Art will no longer appear in Most Recent. It can still appear in Most Likes, Most Viewed and Most Discussed. And as mentioned above, AI Art will not be Featured.

Why Slushe allows AI generated art

Some users have expressed concerns about the appropriateness of allowing AI art, because there are currently ongoing debates and lawsuits about copyright infringement. There are also discussions about whether or not AI generated art should have a place on platforms which host art that is made by artists.

The lawsuits regarding copyright violations that have been targeted at AI art tool organizations need to be resolved in court. If a court of law decides that copyrights were indeed violated, and our staff encounter AI art of such origin on Slushe, it will be dealt with appropriately.

We have seen that some art communities have decided to allow AI generated art while others have chosen to prohibit it. We decided to allow AI generated art, because we want to be welcoming to new and different forms of artistic expression.  While Slushe was originally intended to be a platform for artists who create original adult content, either from scratch or by developing raw assets into an original character or scene with a unique style, we also recognize that technology is developing at a rapid pace.

Although artwork generated by AI tools is not handmade by the person who is handling the AI tool, the parameters used to generate the artwork still need to be set up by the person. The person also needs to judge the end result of the generator for artistic value. We recognize that people who may not have the artistic ability of a painter or modeler may want to use it as a form of artistic expression. Likewise, traditional 2D and 3D artists already creating original works on our site may want the freedom to utilize AI to expand on or enhance their future creations.

We still wish to be respectful to the work 2D and 3D artists put into honing their skills and creating art, which is why AI art will be restricted into its own Homepage tab, and why it is not eligible to be featured content.
